Hitachi Energy invests another US$ 77 million in Brazil to make transformer components
According to JETRO, Hitachi Energy, Hitachi's power transmission and distribution subsidiary, announced on October 22 an additional US$ 77 million investment to expand production of transformer components in Brazil. Its total investment in the country now exceeds US$ 350 million.
- A new plant for high-voltage transformer bushings and tap changers in Pindamonhangaba (São Paulo state), on the site of the transformer factory under construction
- Expansion of insulating-material production in Guarulhos (São Paulo state)
- Automation with robots and automated guided vehicles (AGVs) plus digitalized production; more than 120 direct jobs across both sites
- Aims to cut reliance on imports from Europe and Asia and to use Brazil as an export base for North America and the Middle East
- The transformer plant is due in November 2027 and the components plant by the end of 2028
Why it matters
The investment shows Japanese companies see Brazil not only as a supplier but as a production and export base, a vote of confidence in Brazilian industry and supply chains.
